Meet the Captains

Captain Bill DeLunaCapt1

Hello, my name is Bill DeLuna and I am the owner of Pacific Marine Charters and one of 3 captains that currently operate our fleet of boats.

I owned my first boat when I was a mere 14 years old. I still remember when my father would tow my little aluminum fishing boat down to Los Alamitos Harbor in Long Beach and drop me off to go fishing for the day. He would then pick me up at the end of his work day, load up the boat, and drive us home. There has never been a time since then that I wasn’t fishing, boating or sailing along the Southern California coastline or in the lakes that dot our urban landscape.

capPgFast forward 38 years! I retired from law enforcement after 30 years of service with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. It was then that I decided to turn my passion of sailing, fishing and boating into a business in which I could offer our customers an affordable and unique adventure aboard one of our luxurious sailboats or motorboats.

In addition to earning a U.S.C.G. Master 50 G.T. Captains License with an endorsement for sailing, Pacific Marine Charters is licensed by the California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau, authorizing us to scatter the cremated remains of your loved ones at sea in a dignified manner.  Additionally, Pacific Marine Charters operate the harbor shuttles for the Oceanside Marina Suites in Oceanside Harbor.  Oceanside Marina Suites is the only hotel in the Harbor, offering Five Star accomodations including oceanview rooms, romantic suites and top notch service!  We are proud to be of service to this fine establishment.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to share my passion with you and your guests, whether it be a romantic sunset wine cruise along the Southern California coastline, a gentle morning sail into the open ocean or an adventurous afternoon sail while being pushed along by the westerly ocean breezes. And who knows, you are likely to witness nature at it’s best when a pod of dolphins play along the bow of our boat or a whale that breeches a short distance away.

Captain Glenn HendersonCapt. Glenn

Hi, I am Glenn Henderson.  As a young boy, my brother and I went on frequent fishing trips with our dad out to the Coronado Islands and beyond.  Always one to want to help the captain, my dad always knew where to find me when it was lunchtime……with the captain asking questions!  When I started sailing with my wife and her family in 1974, I became hooked on sailing.

Life got in the way of my sailing passion.  After obtaining my Master’s degree in Education, with a Bachelors in geography, and a minor in physical education, I pursued a career in management for Rite-Aid, (then Thrifty Drugstores).  After 25 years, my dormant degree in education beckoned, and I returned to college to obtain my teaching credentials.  I taught Algebra and Geometry for the next thirteen years to middle and high school students in Hemet, California.  Even after retiring, I continue to be a substitute teacher.

My love for the outdoors extends itself in other directions as well.  Over the past 35 years, I have been an active member and past president of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit.  We work very closely with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

I met Bill’s wife, Brenda, as a fellow teacher and as a member of the Rescue Team. When Brenda called 10 years ago asking if I was interested in buying a sailboat from Bill, my wife Robin and I rushed to go take a look. The rest is history…..since then, Robin and I have had a sailboat in Oceanside Harbor, starting with Bill’s 24’ Columbia which weupdated a couple of years ago to a 28’ Pearson.

In addition to earning a U.S.C.G. Master 50 G.T. Captains license with a sailing endorsement I have earned Certificates from the United States Power Squadron (USPS) in Seamanship, Anchoring, Piloting and Advanced Piloting. I am also a member of the American Sailing Association (ASA) and have earned certificates in Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering.

Weekends nearly always find me with family and friends on my boat sailing out into the ocean.  I think there is no better ending to a day than having the ocean breeze in my face while watching the sun begin to set.
